In this post, you will read about how to impress your guests with these 5 tips
Open Door Policy for Your Guests
Though an introvert, there is nothing more exciting to me than having guests over! Ever since moving to our new home in North Carolina, our house has been filled with guests countless times. We have an open-door policy. On average, people walk through our door 4-5 times per week to stay for dinner, most definitely some games, and occasionally a movie.
All of these tips are tried and true from yours truly!
Decorate Your Entryway
- Make your entryway welcoming! Your entryway is your “first impression.” It is the first place that your guests will lay eyes on in your home! We have a consul table with seasonal decorations, white shelves that are built into the wall, and some beautiful plants out front before they walk in the door. I personally love white flowers and ferns out on our front lawn area. A huge thank you to my husband who takes such great care of our plants!
Make the Home Smell Good
- Put an air freshener somewhere near the door. I wouldn’t suggest putting one in every room, as you will most likely faint from getting high off of fresh linen scent! Haha! There is nothing like walking into a home that smells fresh, clean, and welcoming. I personally love the fresh linen plugs from Target and Bath and Body Works’ seasonal wall plugs.
Tidy-Up Beforehand
- Make sure that your home is not a tornado when others come through the door. Though you don’t always have to keep your house in mint condition, it is important to have a neat and decluttered space when guests come to visit. I have a set cleaning schedule for my house. I take on a few rooms per day (just a casual tidy-up/dusting) and aim to vacuum 4 times per week and mop 2 times per week. I know that sounds obsessive, but when you have guests 4-5 times a week and two of the most high-shedding dog breeds, it is essential to sweep and mop the floors! Nobody likes dog hair all over their nice new black socks!
Always Have Snacks
- Always have some snacks or appetizers available. With social events specifically, guests enjoy having some snacks while they chat! Maybe this is just a southern thing… but I would like to think that everyone would like something to snack on as they are hanging out in your home! We usually make a cheese board and have some fruit on it, too. Guests who come to our home love it! It doesn’t have to be fancy at all!
Have a Guest Basket Ready
- The last tip is specifically for guests staying overnight! I have a guest basket in our two guest rooms that have essential items (toothbrush, toothpaste, tissues, etc.), water bottles, face wipes, mints, and other snacks. Every guest who stays at our home comments on these. Thanks to Pinterest for passing down the idea! This is definitely something to consider if you have guests who stay overnight.
You Got This!
Having guests in our home is one of my favorite things! It brings so much joy into our lives.
Happy hosting!
Much love,
Mallory
